Forward Dillon Brooks is widely considered to be the best perimeter defender on the Memphis Grizzlies. He is tasked with guarding superstars regularly, and he is currently the primary defender on LeBron James during the Grizzlies’ series against the Los Angeles Lakers.
In Game 3, Dillon Brooks was called for a flagrant 2 foul for hitting LeBron James in the groin area. Today, he spoke about the ruling, claiming that his perception as a “villain” influence the call being made.
“The media making me a villain, the fans making me a villain, that just creates another persona on me.”
There is no doubt that Dillon Brooks is known for his trash-talking, and it is easy to see why many believe that he is a “villain” in the league. Still, all players should be called the same, and it is unfortunate that Brooks feels as though he was unfairly targeted.
In the series against the Los Angeles Lakers, Dillon Brooks has averaged 11.3 PPG, 2.3 RPG, and 1.7 APG. There is no doubt that his defense has been crucial for the team, though the Grizzlies will need more from him on offense if they are to win this series.
LeBron James Claimed He Is Not Affected By Dillon Brooks’ Antics On Defense
There are some who believe that Dillon Brooks’ antics and his consistently trash-talking opponents help him get an edge. However, LeBron James has recently claimed that this doesn’t affect him, hilariously pointing to his resume to prove his point.
“Not, at the end of the day I think my resume and what I’ve done for this league speak for itself,” the four-time NBA champion said. “I don’t really get caught up in any comments like that.
It is clear that LeBron James is simply focused on winning, and his goal is to try and get to the second round, and eventually the championship. He is not worried about Dillon Brook’s comments, and ultimately he has proven that his approach is successful, as the Lakers are up 2-1 on the Memphis Grizzlies.
It will be interesting to see if the Los Angeles Lakers can take a commanding 3-1 lead on the Memphis Grizzlies after Game 4. It won’t be easy, but clearly LeBron James is up to the challenge.
