Real Madrid recently made a decision on the future of veteran striker Karim Benzema.
Benzema continues to stick with Real Madrid for another year.
Karim Benzema’s contract with Real Madrid expires at the end of June. At the age of 35, many believe that the French striker will have to leave to make room for younger new factors in the next summer transfer window.
However, the Spanish Royal team made a surprise decision about the French captain. Specifically, AS reported that Real Madrid had activated the automatic renewal clause to keep Benzema until June 2024.
Most likely, this old general will reduce his salary to stay at the Bernabeu. Earlier in 2021, Benzema signed a two-year contract with a 10-15% reduction per year, but with a release clause of up to 1 billion euros.
Since Ronaldo left, Benzema has always been Real’s best scorer. The first three seasons, he reached 30, 27 and 30 goals respectively, before bursting last season with 44 goals.
This season, despite continuous injuries, Benzema still scored 26 goals and provided 6 assists in 35 matches in all competitions. Currently, the captain of the French team has joined the Royal team to enter the semi-finals of the Champions League and is about to play in the final of the King’s Cup.
After 14 years with Real Madrid, Benzema and this team won 4 La Liga, 2 King’s Cup, 4 Spanish Super Cup, 5 Champions League and many other big and small titles.
The 35-year-old general currently has 349 goals in 640 games for Los Blancos, the second best striker in the club’s history after Cristiano Ronaldo (450).
At the end of 2022, Benzema won the World Ballon d’Or award after winning the Champions League, La Liga and Spanish Super Cup with Real Madrid.
