Opta said that after Rooney and Ronaldo, Saka and Martinelli are the only U21 pairing to have scored 20 goals each in a Premier League season. Specifically, Saka scored 13 goals and had 11 assists, while Martinelli owned 15 goals and 5 times to “clean up” for teammates at Arsenal from the beginning of the 2022/23 season.
In addition to Saka and Martinelli, there are 6 players in the 2022/23 Premier League with their shoes on 20 goals including Erling Haaland (37 goals), Harry Kane (25), Ivan Toney, Mohamed Salah (with 22 goals), Ollie Watkins and Kevin de Bruyne (both 20 goals).
Martinelli is the second Brazilian to reach 15 goals in a single Premier League season after Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino (2017/18). Meanwhile, Saka rose to second in the Premier League assist race, losing to De Bruyne (15 assists). Saka’s teammate, Leandro Trossard, ranked 3rd with 7 assists.
In the 3-3 draw of the “Gunners” against Southampton in the 32nd round of the Premier League on the morning of April 22, Martinelli and Saka both scored. However, Arsenal disappointed when they dropped an important point against the bottom team in the Premier League. This is Arsenal’s third draw in a row in the domestic league.
“Gunners” still lead the rankings with 75 points, 5 points more than Man City but played 2 more games. The first place will change hands if “Cityzens” win all of the 2 matches. On April 27, Man City and Arsenal will face off directly in the 33rd round of the Premier League.
