Zakopane is nestled in the foothills of the Tatras, known as Poland’s best-known mountain resort, famed for hiking in summer and skiing in winter, though at the height of the summer and winter seasons, it can get positively overrun. In addition to outdoor pursuits, Zakopane is also known for its beautiful wooden villas, dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Some of these wooden villas now house museums, while others have been converted into hotels or pensions. The father of this craze for ornate timber houses was the architect Stanisław Witkiewicz (1851-1915), and his early 20th-century creations helped to establish Zakopane as a haven for painters, poets, writers, and composers. Two of the town’s most famous former residents include Witkiewicz’s son, the writer, and painter Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz (better known as Witkacy), and the composer Karol Szymanowski.
Zakopane’s train station is a fairly low-key affair, but there are indeed regular trains to many destinations, including Krakow and Warsaw. If you’re carrying heavy luggage, you may want to take a taxi to your next port of call. But if it’s just a backpack on your shoulders, the walk into the center only takes about ten minutes. There’s a waiting room and a couple of shops, but otherwise, there’s not a huge amount going on there. You can expect to be greeted by some cheerful grandmas offering bed and board at reduced prices. The main bus station is located next door.
Aquapark Zakopane is a must if you want to have a fun time during your vacation. This is one of the largest and most modern centers of its kind in Malpolska. The park has 2 slides that are 260 meters long altogether. At the Aquapark there is also a Jacuzzi with seawater, a hydro massage, and a rapidly flowing river. Later on, you can avail yourself of the sauna. There is also a restaurant. At the Aqua Park Zakopane, you will find 2 outdoor pools with thermal water, a pool with swimming lanes, a recreational pool with water attractions, 2 slides, a mini pool for children, 6 Jacuzzis, a wild river, 4 saunas, a bowling center, a children’s playroom, and a gym and fitness center.
