An American astronomer thinks extraterrestrial life will be discovered in unexplored regions of the universe.
Astronomer Seth Shostak of the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) organization believes that humans are about to find extraterrestrial intelligence, Futurism reported on October 1.
SETI has been searching and studying mysterious phenomena in the universe for decades in the hope of helping people confirm the existence of extraterrestrial life. “I bet we’ll find extraterrestrial intelligence in the next 20 years,” Shostak said in an interview.
Although no evidence has been found to confirm the existence of extraterrestrial life, human discoveries about the universe in the past 20 years are not small. In fact, these findings have huge implications for the operation of SETI. Compared to a few decades ago, humans know more that there are still many unexplored places in the universe.
Shostak thinks we might find extraterrestrial life in such areas. “Maybe we will find microbial life. That will happen soon, I think,” he said. However, contacting aliens is a different story.
“I don’t know much about communicating with aliens. If they were 500 light-years away, you would hear a signal transmitted from 500 years ago. And if you send back the message ‘Hello, We are Earthlings. How are you?’, it will take 1,000 years for you to receive a signal,” added Shostak.
However, he thinks that if we receive a reply, at least we will know that there are aliens in the universe.
