Namor is officially returning in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and his involvement in the film makes a certain other superhero an inevitability.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is officially set to include Tenoch Huerta’s Namor the Sub-Mariner when it hits theaters in 2025, suggesting that a certain other hero from the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be joining him in the highly anticipated film. Avengers 5 screenwriter Jeff Loveness recently revealed his excitement over writing Namor’s character in the upcoming film, offering the first solid proof that Huerta’s underwater king would make an appearance alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in their fight against Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors). While the exact heroes who will appear in The Kang Dynasty remain unknown, Namor’s involvement offers some insight as to who may fill out the film’s cast.
King of Talokan, Namor made quite the splash last year in his debut film, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The Black Panther sequel marked the very first time that the antihero, who is one of Marvel Comics’ oldest characters, appeared in live-action. Namor, also known in the MCU as K’uk’ulkan, is a mutant who possesses a vast array of superhuman abilities, including water manipulation, super strength, and flight, making him one of the strongest characters in the franchise. As a result, his MCU return is inevitable as he finally comes face-to-face with the other heroes of the franchise.
Namor In Avengers 5 Means Shuri’s Black Panther Almost Certainly Joins The Team
If Namor appears in The Kang Dynasty, then Shuri’s new Black Panther will certainly return as well. After taking over the mantle of Black Panther from her brother, T’Challa, it is unclear where exactly Shuri stands when it comes to the Avengers. Though she joined forces with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, it appears that she has had little contact with the other heroes in the years since. As such, there was some doubt as to whether or not Shuri’s Black Panther would become a member of the Avengers by The Kang Dynasty, but Namor’s return is a great sign for her MCU future.
Thus far, Shuri is the only Avenger to have ever met Talokan’s mighty king. Namor and Shuri nearly killed each other during their last meeting, eventually making peace in order to preserve both of their nations. Despite his turbulent relationship with the Black Panther, Namor’s best chance of showing up in the next Avengers film comes as a result of his connection with Shuri. As such, the chances of the Black Panther’s return in The Kang Dynasty and even Secret Wars seem much higher, as serves as an important part of the plot to bring together a new era of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Who Else Will Join The Avengers In The Kang Dynasty?
The entire lineup for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty remains a complete mystery. While it seems certain that the remaining original MCU heroes like Hawkeye, Thor, and Hulk will appear, other new heroes are sure to join the Avengers as well. Shang-Chi, for example, appears to be a lock for the new film, which will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who also helmed 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. As such, Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) is rumored to have a bigger role than previously expected in the upcoming film, playing an integral part in the Avengers’ desperate fight against Kang the Conqueror.
Phase 4 made it a point to introduce new heroes worthy of taking the place of the MCU’s original Avengers lineup. Characters like Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel, Tatiana Maslany’s She-Hulk, Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight, and Danny Ramirez’s Falcon all stand a strong chance of joining the team. Combined with the might of certain powerful members of the team like Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange, who are more than prepared for the battle against Kang the Conqueror. The Avengers may stand a chance of defeating Kang after all, with these new heroes all poised to finally join forces. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty may just feature the most overpowered Avengers team yet.
