“If I didn’t have the body I do, I wouldn’t have the career I do,” wrote the model.
Gigi Hadid may be one of the biggest “It” girls on the runways right now, but that isn’t stopping the haters from making remarks about her body — and the model has had enough. The face of Maybelline is addressing the Internet trolls in a new Instagram post.
“So many people are so quick to comment negative opinions this month. Yes, judgment on social comes from people who, 99% of the time, have no idea what they’re talking about,” she wrote on Monday, “but I’m human, and I’m not going to lie, I did let the negativity get to me a little.”
Hadid has been working the fashion month circuit, most recently walking on the Versace and Dolce & Gabbana runways during Milan Fashion Week. She’ll close out the month in Paris.
“No, I don’t have the same body type as the other models in shows. No, I don’t think I’m the best at any given show. Yes, I want to have a unique walk but I also know I have to improve,” the 20-year-old catwalker, who stars in the new Balmain x H&M campaign with Kendall Jenner and Jourdan Dunn, continued. “I represent a body image that wasn’t accepted in high-fashion before, and I’m very lucky to be supported by the designers, stylists, and editor that I am: ones that know this is fashion, it’s art; it can never stay the same.”
If the body-shamers think she’s going away anytime soon, think again.
Added Hadid: “If you don’t like it, don’t follow me, don’t watch me, cause I’m not going anywhere. If I didn’t have the body I do, I wouldn’t have the career I do. I love that I can be sexy. I’m proud of it.” And Joe Jonas is quite proud, too.
“My Girl Just Killed It. @versace_official,” Jonas captioned a photo of his lady strutting on the Versace runway.
