Where does the braid stop and Dua Lipa begin? The musician just posted some snaps rocking the loooooongest braid we’ve ever seen on her, but the supersized length isn’t the only standout detail about the hairstyle — she’s also throwing it back to the 2000s with a very trendy Y2K zigzag part.
Dua posted a carousel of pics of herself scaling the ceiling (??) with her dark hair pulled back into a low ponytail, then braided in a long, thick plait down her back. But upon closer inspection, her hair isn’t pushed back from her forehead like a traditional slicked-back style but rather parted in a zigzag pattern à la thee hottest style for middle schoolers in the 2000s. (I know, I was there.)

The Rapunzel braid and zigzag came courtesy of stylist Rio Sreedharan, who often works with Dua, and her shiny silver eyes and dark liner were crafted by makeup pro Lisa Eldridge. She paired the super-long braid with a relaxed and fun ‘fit, including sheer tights, brown knee-high flat buckle boots, a black dress trimmed in khaki, and an oversized brown leather jacket, perfect for climbing up into the eaves and pretending to be a cat stuck in a tree.
Let’s talk more about the zigzag part, though. The Great Part Wars continue to rage as millennials cling to their beloved side parts, and Gen Z prefers a middle part or the comeback kid known as the zigzag. The style was so major back in the ’00s and was truly everywhere, spotted on stars like Mandy Moore and Scary Spice. We even had special tools to help sculpt the perfect part. (Yes, it was that serious.)
Much like other Y2K trends, the zigzag part is back in a big way thanks to nostalgia-loving style icons like Bella Hadid and Dua. Everything old is new again, indeed.
