Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes that Luke Shaw is the “best left full-back in the UK”.
England international Shaw, 27, signed a new contract this week, tying him to the Old Trafford club until June 2027.
Shaw has played 36 times for United in all competitions during the current campaign. He has occasional been deployed as a center-half, but Ten Hag clearly thinks that he best position is left-back.
Speaking to ManUtd.com, Ten Hag said Shaw was having a “great, great season so far” and that he has been making “great progress”.
Ten Hag added: “I think it’s really good news for Manchester United that he stays playing for Manchester United.
“I think it tells everything, he’s the best left full-back in the UK. You see it also in the England team, he is performing so well there as well.
“So we are really happy that he extended his contract and that he stays longer with us and is going with us in this project and in this journey.”
Shaw was selected by the Professional Footballers’ Association in the Premier League Team of the Year in 2021.
Other left-backs to be recognized by the PFA in recent seasons include Andy Robertson and Joao Cancelo.
Scotland international Robertson has provided six assists for Liverpool this season.
Cancelo left England in January when he joined Bayern Munich from Manchester City.
