At the Brazilian team’s practice, the Real Madrid player spoke.
During several matches in the Spanish league, fans have racially abused Real Madrid player Vinicius Junior. The most recent incident happened last weekend during a game at Barcelona, where Vinicius, a Black player, was subjected to racist taunts during the home team’s 2-1 victory that gave them control of the title race. In an effort to stop racial abuse in sports, the league has brought forth eight complaints of this nature so far this year.
Since moving to Spain five years ago, Vinicius has endured racist taunts, but little has been done to hold the offending fans accountable. According to reports, the attacks have become more frequent, especially since the 22-year-old Brazilian forward became one of Madrid’s stars.
Last year, the player assisted Madrid in capturing both the Spanish league and the Champions League. Despite this, the perpetrators of some of the attacks have not yet been apprehended by the authorities.
Vinicius response: “Not everyone can have the mentality that I have”
At the conclusion of practice with the Brazilian national soccer team, Vinicius addressed racism: “Not everyone can have the mentality that I have. Of course, every interview I give is very sad to have to talk about it. We hope there are fewer cases of racism and we hope for a better world…. “.
The Real Madrid striker discussed one of the topics that has recently come up frequently on soccer fields and disclosed his involvement in upcoming initiatives to combat racism.
“It’s always very difficult to talk about racism, but every day that goes by I’m maturing more to be able to talk about it better. My family and I are thinking of doing an anti-racism project for children in Brazil who suffer….”.
LaLiga responded to the Brazilian’s remarks by expressing its support for the football player in his ʙᴀᴛᴛʟᴇ against the issue. “LaLiga and the Clubs continue to work to end this sᴄᴏᴜʀɢᴇ. We are all united against racism”.
The Spanish league has increased the number of officials at games, especially those where Vinicius plays, and urged supporters to report any instances of racial abuse in an effort to address the problem. The league has also complained to the judiciary, but there hasn’t been much done to solve the issue thus far.
