LeBron James is still sidelined as he recovers from a nagging foot ailment, but according to Darvin Johnson, head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, the star forward is on the mend and might make a comeback sometime in the 2022–23 season.
While a lot of fans celebrated the positive news, some couldn’t help but get frustrated over the lack of definite timeline for LeBron. It has been almost three weeks since James was sidelined, and he is already set to be re-evaluated in the upcoming week. With that said, others had some concerning take on the news.
“Good news. Now let’s get some wins under our belt so we can have a chance this season. I see Mo Bamba warming up without a boot. Hopefully he can come back,” one optimistic fan commented.
Another Purple and Gold faithful predicted, “My realistic take. He will likely be back earliest in Houston at 02-Apr, 5 games left in the regular season. 3-3 (win against ORL, OKC, CHI x1) until he returns and hopefully 4-1. That will put them 41-41 good enough to be in play-in.”
As mentioned, others were rather pessimistic and mocked the update … or the lack thereof.
“This could literally mean he comes back the last game of the season lol,” one commenter shared.
“He’s supposed to be back this week. How is that encouraging?” another Twitter user shared, referencing the initial three-week re-evaluation timeline for James.
“That says nothing. Lol,” a third critic wrote.
Sure enough, it’s easy to see where the frustrations of the fans are coming from. With the Lakers on a two-game skid heading to Sunday’s game against the Orlando Magic, they could really use LeBron’s presence in the upcoming week in order to improve their chances of making the playoffs, or at least the Play-In.
Hopefully, though, Lakers fans get a clearer update after James gets re-evaluated.
