“Is Derrick Rose Muslim?” is a question many basketball fans have been asking lately. The veteran point guard mentioned Allah in one of his Instagram posts, which is why a lot of people believe that he converted to Islam.
Rose is a 34-year-old guard who plays for the New York Knicks. His career has been incredible as he became the youngest player in NBA history to win the MVP award back in 2011. Unfortunately, numerous injuries have ruined his career, but he’s still a solid contributor.
The point guard has also been controversial, but has kept a relatively low profile lately.
Is Derrick Rose Muslim? Instagram post makes basketball fans believe that he converted to Islam
Back in 2020, Rose published an Instagram post regarding his 11th signature shoe with Adidas. The point guard also mentioned Allah in the post, which is why many of his followers started thinking that he converted to Islam.
While there was no official confirmation of Rose’s conversion, a lot of basketball fans incorrectly assumed a big change in his life. However, it doesn’t appear that Rose has converted to Islam.
“Allah/Universe already got the plan,” Derrick Rose wrote in the caption of his Instagram post.
Despite his mention of Allah, Derrick Rose is not Muslim. In fact, he’s still a Christian and has spoken about his faith several times. The veteran guard also has several religious tattoos, including “God’s Child” on his back.
The 3-time All-Star also wears a wristband that says “In Jesus’ Name I Play.” While Rose seems to be a devout Christian, his denomination is still a mystery.
More information about Derrick Rose’s background and life
The veteran point guard has a mixed ethnicity. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, the city that drafted him in 2008. Rose was also raised in the Windy City, but he left once he decided to join the University of Memphis.
Rose’s mother, Brenda Rose, raised him alone with three more brothers. All of his brothers were talented and they helped Derrick learn how to play the game.
At the University of Memphis, Rose established himself as one of the best young players in the nation. He led the Tigers to the national championship game, but couldn’t beat the Kansas Jayhawks.
Despite failing to win the national title, Rose was arguably the best player in the country, which is why the Chicago Bulls picked him with the first pick in the draft. Three years later, the point guard won the MVP award after averaging 25.0 points and 7.7 assists per game.
