Apart from being one of the most skillful actors in the industry, Willem Dafoe has also been pretty outspoken about his desire to play comic book characters. Even though the actor previously shared his want to portray the character of Joker on the big screen. But considering that DC’s deck is currently full of Jokers, the actor can still portray another major villain instead.
With Peter Parker moving forward in his new journey it will be exciting to see what the future holds for the character next and we might again witness his iconic villain in the upcoming MCU entries.

Willem Dafoe is open to the idea of returning as Green Goblin
After making his grand return to the iconic role of Green Goblin in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which appeared like the perfect swansong for Dafoe as Osborn, it seems that the actor isn’t done with the character. While speaking with Inverse, The Lighthouse actor went on to share his viewpoint regarding the concept of reprising his role in the MCU’s future.
Despite brushing off the idea, Dafoe expressed that he might still return for the role, if everything seems right, considering that he had a great time during Spider-Man: No Way Home. He said,
“If everything was right, sure. I mean, that’s a great role. I liked the fact that it’s a double role both times. Twenty years ago, and fairly recently, both times [were] very different experiences, but I had a good time on both.”
Following his love for the character and bearing in mind that MCU still hasn’t established its version of Norman Osborn. It seems that the upcoming Spider-Man entry can be the perfect opportunity to bring Dafoe’s character back into the mix.

Can Willem Dafoe return in Spider-Man 4?
Considering that the upcoming entry in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man franchise will the marking the beginning of the next chapter in Parker’s life. It is reasonable to assume that the upcoming movie would likely set up more iconic villains from the web-slinger’s rogues’ gallery, including Norman Osborn. And bearing in mind that the Multiverse is now a big thing in the MCU, Dafoe’s return as some sort of variant doesn’t seems unlikely.
But even though it seems that MCU would most likely look forward to establishing its own Green Goblin. The upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars can still witness the return of the actor, as the movie is reportedly bringing back many legacy characters to make it the biggest comic book movie yet.
