Another disappointing Champions League run from PSG came to an end, as they were knocked out of the competition by Bayern Munich in the round of 16. Despite assembling the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar together, the French club were not able to score a single goal over the two legs. And could the result have an implication on the future of Real Madrid as well?

Mbappe had looked destined to join Real Madrid not too long ago. So much so that he was cheered by the Santiago Bernabeu crowd last season, who had thought they were looking at their next superstar.

Mbappe would end up agreeing a contract extension with PSG though, and remained in the French capital. Yet, it looks like it was a decision that he regretted soon afterwards.

As reported by MARCA, Real Madrid were surprised when they received the first call from Mbappe’s entourage at the end of last summer. The French World Cup winner regretted his decision to renew his contract with PSG.

If the rumours are indeed accurate, then Mbappe moving to Real Madrid in the future could be a possibility for sure. One has to remember, his extension with PSG was not for a huge length of time.

It is believed to be a two-year deal with Mbappe having the option to extend it for a third year if he wants to. Thus, it is very possible that PSG might have to consider letting him go this summer, rather than potentially losing him for absolutely nothing a year later.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Mbappe. But if Real Madrid do have the chance to sign him, they should definitely consider taking it. The Frenchman is one of the best players in the world and still just 24 years of age. Thus, he could be the face of the club for the next decade to come.
