Jonathan Majors is perfect for this demanding role.
Hollywood star Jonathan Majors is on a roll. After starring in two of the year’s biggest blockbusters—Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania as well as Creed III—the 33-year-old is set to play the role of Dennis Rodman in the film called “48 Hours in Vegas.” This project will tackle the mercurial forward’s impromptu trip to Sin City while playing for the Chicago Bulls during the 1997-1998 season.
Do Rodman justice
Majors knows about Rodman’s iconic status both on and off the court, and as he prepares to take this role, he is aware he has work to do to ensure his performance onscreen does justice to the former NBA star.
“Hopefully, I get to sit with him and chat with him when we get closer and [are] trying to get the script right,” Majors said. “All these things, all these industry things. I never really put a ceiling on myself, but this is definitely a role where I’m pushing that ceiling out. Because he demands that. He’s such a full individual, so he’s going to demand a lot and I have to figure out how to get that.”
Infamous vacation
The movie will focus on the infamous 48-hour vacation Rodman asked for from then-Bulls coach Phil Jackson and superstar Michael Jordan in the middle of the 1997-1998 season. It was a mind-boggling request that His Airness was hesitant to agree to.
“While Scottie was out, Dennis was a model citizen to a point where it was driving him f**king insane,” Michael Jordan said in a present-day interview. “So when Scottie came back, Dennis wanted to take a vacation.”
“Dennis was bizarre. But I think what made it work was Phil and Michael’s understanding that to get the most out of him on the court, you had to give him some rope,” Steve Kerr said in an episode of “The Last Dance” documentary.
It all worked out for the best as Rodman was instrumental in helping the Bulls to a three-peat as NBA champions, securing his place in basketball history.
