If there were any doubts about how Kevin Durant would fit in with the Phoenix Suns, they have been dismissed fairly quickly as he is 3-0 with his new team.
They are on a roll, and when Durant was asked after their win over the Dallas Mavericks about the leadership of the Suns, he stated it is a group effort.
“Leadership is about a group effort,” Durant said. “Like we are not going to just look at one guy to have all the answers. I think we can all figure it out as a collective and move from there and like I said, veteran teams that have been through a lot, that’s seen some stuff in this league, it’s good to have those voices talking in the locker room, so it’s only gonna make us getter. I’m looking forward to keep building with this team, it’s been fun so far.”
Durant has never shown a lot of interest in being the leader of a team, so it isn’t a surprise to hear him say that it is a group effort. The Suns have Chris Paul to handle the leadership role in times of need anyway, so Durant can just focus on what he does best, which is to dominate when he steps onto the court.
In his 3 games with the Suns, KD has averaged 26.7 PPG, 7.3 RPG, 3.7 APG, and 1.2 BPG while shooting a ridiculous 69.0% from the field. He also delivered in the clutch in that win over the Mavericks, as he hit a big shot to give them the lead with 12.1 seconds remaining and then iced the game at the free throw line.
Kevin Durant Spoke On Playing Against Kyrie Irving
This game also marked the first time that Durant went up against Kyrie Irving after their time together as teammates on the Brooklyn Nets. The two men hadn’t spoken with each other since leaving the Nets and it added to the intrigue around the game.
Durant was asked afterward about his emotions on playing against his former teammate, and he said that it was just another game. He added that they have played against each other for much of their careers so it wasn’t a big deal at all. There might have been some tensions underneath the surface, but it didn’t bother KD at all, as he finished with a game-high 37 points.
