Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag expects Luke Shaw to return to the squad to face Liverpool on Sunday.
The 27-year-old has been sensational this season, both at left-back and centre-back, but gave fans a scare when he picked up a knock in the Carabao Cup final and was ruled out of the recent FA Cup victory over West Ham United.
Fortunately for United, Shaw is back in training and Ten Hag is confident he will be available to face Liverpool.
“I think we will have players back,” Ten Hag said in his pre-match press conference. “[Against West Ham] Luke Shaw was not available, so we expect him back.
“[Jadon] Sancho was ill, but we will have to wait and see how that develops but I think he could be [available] as well.”
Ten Hag was keen to avoid talking about Liverpool and instead fought to keep the focus of his press conference on United, although he did acknowledge the challenge of travelling to Anfield, where United were thumped 4-0 last season.
“It is, of course, a test,” Ten Hag conceded. “But we’re facing Liverpool and we’re really looking forward [to it], I know these players, my squad, my team will be prepared to go and fight, to go with confidence but we know it’s going to be difficult.
“We know we have to suffer, we have to sacrifice to get a good result.”
Asked for his thoughts towards Liverpool’s struggles this season, the boss stressed: “I’m not talking about Liverpool, it’s not my responsibility.
“I have enough do at Carrington, I have enough to do with Manchester United, so I have to deal with the performance of Manchester United and that’s all I’m aware of and where I’m putting all my effort in.”
