When questioned how the Phoenix Suns would fare with two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant on their team, Devin Booker exuded confidence.
Speaking to ESPN, Booker said the side knew what they were getting with Durant, while adding he was one of the best players “to touch a basketball.”
“He has the type of game that you can throw into any system and he’s ready to go. So, I’m excited to play with him. Should be a lot of space out there, we’re gonna defend at a high level and I’m looking forward to it.”
The Suns were one of the teams that pulled off a blockbuster trade ahead of the deadline by acquiring the forward. Mikal Bridges, Jae Crowder (now with the Milwaukee Bucks), Cameron Johnson, and four first-round picks were part of the deal and were sent to the Brooklyn Nets.
The move surely changes the balance of power in the Western Conference, especially after Kyrie Irving made his way to the Dallas Mavericks. Durant joining Booker, Chris Paul, and Deandre Ayton now makes them bonafide title contenders.
Kevin Durant On How He Can Help Devin Booker Unlock Another Level
The camaraderie between Booker and Durant appears to be rock solid with the veteran already planning on helping the talented guard take his game to the next level.
In his recent interview with Boardroom, Durant said he could make Booker more efficient with the former part of the squad.
“I can probably provide him a little bit more space than he’s used to with my shooting ability,” Durant explained.
“And I see a lot of games. He gets double-teamed a lot, especially off the small forward, which is the position I played. So, I can help provide him a little bit more space, which would make him even more efficient, and vice versa.”
This goes on par with Booker who mentioned space in his thoughts about sharing the floor alongside Durant. The team is now an absolute powerhouseja, and only time will tell if Phoenix can indeed land a championship in the months to come. They clearly have the ability to do so.
