Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that he doesn’t care whether or not Marco Asensio signs a new contract at Real Madrid. The 27-year-old faces an increasingly uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu with his deal set to expire in the summer.
Asensio, who has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal for some time now, has featured 31 times for the Spanish giants this season, directly contributing towards 11 goals. His impressive displays are said to have courted the interest of several Premier League clubs, with Manchester United believed to be monitoring the Spain international’s situation.
While Asensio remains to be an important player for Los Blancos, scoring three goals in his previous five La Liga appearances, Ancelotti has insisted that he feels no pressure to tie the Spaniard down to a new contract. As quoted by the Mirror, the former Chelsea boss said: “He looks good to me, so I don’t know if he stays or not.
“A lot of other clubs have been linked [with me] as well. But it’s normal because in seven months, well, from January actually, I am free to speak to other teams.”
Then, when pressed for an answer on as to whether he’d make the controversial switch, Asensio replied: “It’s just that I have not thought about [joining Barca] or considered it. Honestly, right now, I can’t give you an answer. I don’t know.”
“Maybe he does, maybe he doesn’t. I don’t care much. We have some important challenges this season. The most important thing is that he contributes like last year. Let him continue as he is doing now. Then the club makes the most appropriate decision in the end.”
In September, Asensio was quizzed on his future by a Spanish radio station called ‘Cope’ amid speculation that a move to Barcelona is on the cards. When asked if he was aware of the Catalan side’s rumoured interest, he said: “Honestly, I don’t know if they have called.
