Here’s everything we know so far about the legendary Rocks Pirates.
The Rocks pirates are a legendary pirate crew that was mentioned for the first time in chapter 907 of the One Piece manga. Thanks to Sengoku, fans found out about the existence of this mighty crew that once ruled the seas. They set sail before the rise of Gol D. Roger, the King of the Pirates, and held powerful members under their flag, some that went on to become Yonko in the current era. The Rocks Pirates were led by the pirate captain Rocks D. Xebec before their fall 38 years ago. Eventually, this caused the crew to disband and spread out.
In current times, the crew’s infamy has faded and is relatively unknown to most people due to the World Government’s efforts to cover up the Rocks Pirates but also due to its own former members having had such bad relationships with each other. It wasn’t uncommon for crew members to kill each other while at sea and they were known for their staggering violence. Forgotten or not, the Rocks pirates remain a crew that impacted piracy like no other before Roger and his crew’s arrival on the Grand Line. From recently defeated Yonko to other legendary pirates, this crew was nothing but impressive.
Captain Rocks D. Xebec
Rocks D. Xebec was an influential pirate that spearheaded the legendary Rocks pirate crew as their captain. He was first shown as a silhouette in chapter 957 of the One Piece manga. Very little is known about this man so far, but from what fans have seen, his most prominent feature is his unruly hair that springs and stands on his head. He also usually has a big smile on his face, referencing his status as a member of the D clan, perhaps. Personality-wise, it could be based on the stories told about him that he was truly a ruthless person who had the ambition of becoming the King of the World. He had no issues killing World Nobles if he saw it necessary to achieve his dream.
Most of what Rocks achieved went unrecorded in history and the only people truly retaining his memory were his former crewmates and veteran Marines who might have faced him in the past. Wanting to become King of the World, he was in direct conflict with the World Government and caused trouble wherever he went. He was more akin to a terrorist, if anything. Even his own crewmates disliked him to an extent, with Linlin calling him untrustworthy and Whitebeard having had bad memories with him.
It’s unknown how strong he truly was, but it needed the team-up of both Gol D. Roger and Garp, the Marine Hero, to put a stop to him on a fateful day on God Valley in the Grand Line. This incident came to be known as the God Valley Incident. His defeat is what granted Garp the title of Marine Hero. It is possible that this is when Rocks’s life ended.
The Powerful Pirates Under Rocks
The Rocks Pirates’ ranks held some powerful pirates. Some faded more into obscurity than others after the separation of the crew because of the God Valley Incident, yet they were all fairly strong in their own regards. Captain Ochoku, also known as Wang Zhi, is a pirate whose name was mentioned earlier in the story and recently in chapter 1059 by Blackbeard. He was able to fight Marshall D. Teach on Hachinosu but ended up losing due to Koby’s involvement. This allowed Blackbeard to take over the island and eventually become a Yonko. He was never seen and most things are still unknown about him.
Captain John is a pirate whose existence was revealed during Thriller Bark. He is confirmed to be deceased as in Thriller Bark, he appeared as one of Moria’s zombies. His crew mates killed him because of his greedy personality. John is especially known for his treasures and wealth, and his legendary treasure cave is a place many hope to stumble upon or discover.
“Golden Lion” Shiki is among the more well-known pirates as he was even the antagonist of a One Piece movie, although the content is non-canon. Before Luffy’s arrival, he was the only pirate known to have escaped from Impel Down. Other known facts about him are that he was considered a big rival to Roger and even commanded the largest fleet on the Grand Line at the time. He tied a fight against Roger during the Edd War. Another member of the crew is Silver Axe, however, absolutely nothing is known about him. Miss Buckingham, on the other hand, has become increasingly influential, especially with the emergence of the Seraphim and clones in One Piece recently. She is alive and well currently.
The Future Yonko
Some of the most well-known pirates in the world were part of Rock’s pirate crew, notably, three very well-known Yonko, Big Mom, Whitebeard, and Kaido. All of them have had bad experiences with Xebec for reasons not fully understood. For Big Mom and Kaido, it is believed that they had a very close relationship as Kaido first met her right after joining the crew. Linlin advised him to be wary of Rocks. During the God Valley Incident, Linlin gave Kaido the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu and he was supposedly indebted to her thereafter.
After Rocks’ supposed death and the disbandment of the crew, every single one of them established themselves with their own crews and became feared pirates. They joined the ranks of the Yonko – the most powerful pirates after the King of the Pirates. Whitebeard was feared and respected as the most powerful man alive during his time before his death during Marineford. Meanwhile, Kaido and Big Mom recently fell and were dethroned by the newer generation of pirates after the events in Wano. While the Rocks Pirates were powerful, most of the members that persisted till now have fallen, leaving the legacy of this crew a legend only now.
