Michael Owen has been slammed as “embarrassing” by football fans after he compared Liverpool flop Darwin Nunez to Chelsea icon Didier Drogba.
Speaking after Liverpool’s 5-2 defeat at the hands of Real Madrid, where Nunez got on the scoresheet, Owen said: “I didn’t think he’d be this raw coming to Liverpool…he is going to have to be coached to be a top player.
“The player I’d probably liken him to is Didier Drogba, not in the same style. But when Drigba came to these shores, people laughed at him for the first year or so! His touch was awful, and he made mistakes, but he just got used to the game.”
One fan responded: “Couldn’t think of a worse comparison, even if I tried very hard!”
“Nah Drogba’s about to file a slander lawsuit on Owen,” a second added. While a third tweeted: “They’re saying this after Liverpool have just lost 5-2…”
And a fourth fumed: “This level of disrespect is disgusting. Don’t ever put them in the same sentence!”

The Uruguayan had opened the scoring on Tuesday evening before Mohamed Salah doubled the lead, but the Reds then went onto ship five before the full-time whistle.
Nunez has now netted in his last two games – with the youngster also finding the net against Newcastle over the weekend.
Chelsea’s injury curse continues as pending new signing suffers setback
Whatever way you want to look it at, whether it’s an issue in the medical team or just pure bad luck, Chelsea’s injury crisis has been prominent and consistent over recent seasons, with a number of key players constantly being injured.
A lot of Chelsea fans call it an injury curse, and refer to themselves as Injury FC, and you can completely see why.
Even players who are not quite yet Chelsea players are seemingly being struck down with injuries. Malo Gusto was signed from Lyon in the summer and loaned back to them, and he is currently now at Cobham being treated for a fresh injury!
And now, pending new signing Christopher Nkunku, who is expected to join Chelsea in the summer albeit no official confirmation yet, has suffered yet another injury setback after only recently returning from a long-term injury.
Chelsea cannot catch an injury break. Whether you’re superstitious or not, the club continue to have terrible luck with injuries.
