In the 75th DGA Awards, Judd Apatow was brought back to host the award ceremony for the fourth time in the last six years. But this time The Forty-year-old Virgin director came off guns blazing, as he went on to take hilarious jabs at many celebrities, including Tom Cruise.
Although Tom Cruise is currently one of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood and is famous for his incredible work ethic, even Ethan Hunt wasn’t immune from Apatow’s jabs. The director jokingly went on to take several jabs at the Top Gun: Maverick actor during his hilarious monologue.

During his monologue, Judd Apatow let himself loose, as he kept on spewing hilarious shots at the Top Gun: Maverick actor. While maintaining his sarcastic tone, the director began his rant by taking a jab at Tom Cruise’s height. And even though Tom Cruise isn’t the shortest actor out there and is fairly average, it didn’t stop Apatow, as the director jokingly said that the amazing visuals of Top Gun: Maverick helped Cruise in hiding his short stature. He said,
“visual effects in Maverick were so top-notch I couldn’t even see the stack of phone books Tom Cruise sat on to reach the flight controls. That’s why he’s always jumping out of tall buildings because you can’t tell how short he is from a 100-story building. That’s why when he’s standing on a wing of an airplane he’s always alone, he doesn’t want anyone there next to him for scale.”
But The Forty-Year-Old Virgin director wasn’t done with the actor, as he began to spew more shots at Tom Cruise, especially on his obsession with stunts and his beliefs in Scientology.

Judd Apatow described Tom Cruise’s stunts as an ad for Scientology
Soon after blasting the actor for his short stature, the director shifted his focus to Cruise’s unreal obsession with performing his stunts. Continuing his sarcastic monologue, Judd Apatow joked about the actor’s obsession with jumping off cliffs and asked the people around him to let him know about CGI. He then went on to take some jabs at the actor’s beliefs in Scientology, as he jokingly stated that the actor’s stunts feel like an ad for the religion. He said,
“Every time he does one of these new stunts it does feel like an ad for Scientology, it really does. I mean, is that in Dianetics because there’s nothing about jumping off a cliff in the Torah?”

Judd Apatow continued his rant over Cruise before jokingly urging him to stop performing those crazy stunts at the age of 60. And although Cruise didn’t attend the award ceremony, many people were left in quite a hysteria after witnessing Apatow’s rant. But the director of Top Gun: Maverick Joseph Kosinski wasn’t quite amused by the jokes.
