‘The man had a good ending and people want to cheapen that’
With the release of the Ant-Man threequel, the hype train for the multiverse saga has left the station, with many even speculating about the return of Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man in the MCU. But it appears that Marvel has no plans regarding bringing back Iron Man from the dead.
After the announcement of the multiverse saga of the MCU, fans were speculating about the return of RDJ in the universe. And after witnessing the return of Hugh Jackman in the role of Wolverine, many were convinced that RDJ was the next in line. But a Marvel executive recently went on to debunk these rumors.

In a recent interview, Marvel executive, Stephen Broussard expressed the studio’s vision for the MCU. And while discussing the future of the cinematic universe, he went on to debunk the rumors of Robert Downey Jr’s return in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars. He stated,
“After these first 10 years of Marvel storytelling, torches are being passed, like with Robert Downey Jr. no longer being [on the] table and stuff like that. So it was kind of like a new generation stepping to the forefront which, again, has always happened in the comics.”
Broussard went on to stress the importance of new characters in the MCU’s future and shared that the prime motive behind phase four was to introduce new heroes, which will take MCU’s legacy forward. And even though many fans did expect to witness a clash between Robert Downey Jr’s Iron man and Jonathan Majors’ Kang, they still praised the studios’ decision to let RDJ and his legacy rest.

Considering the underwhelming releases from Marvel in the last couple of years and their tactic to use nostalgia as bait to bring in audiences, fans were assured that Marvel will bring RDJ in the upcoming future. But after Stephen Broussard denied the possibility of RDJ’s return to the MCU, fans have commended the studios for their decision of letting Tony Stark rest.
Robert Downey Jr. will not return to face Jonathan Majors in the MCU
Robert Downey Jr. is undoubtedly the greatest hero that has emerged from MCU and even though his death left fans in tears, his ultimate sacrifice marked the perfect end for the Infinity Saga. And fans have now praised Marvel for not demeaning his legacy by bringing him back from the dead.
Avengers: Secret Wars is set to hit theatres on 1 May 2026.
