The whole US is talking about the corpse of a mysterious animal discovered on New York beach last month. The strangely shaped animal, nicknamed the “Montauk monster”, is creating a fever in the American media.
It could be a dog… a raccoon, an experiment or it could be a mischievous prank. No one has the exact answer to “Montauk monster”, but one thing is for sure, everyone is talking about it.
The “Montauk Monster” is shaped like a dog.
On the morning of July 30, an American newspaper reported that a mysterious creature had washed up in the Montauk area, along the Long Island coast of New York. It looks almost like a dog but has no fur, strong teeth, and appears to have a beak.
Since then, the “Montauk monster” has become a hot topic of debate in the blogosphere and is well-groomed by the American media. Meanwhile, animal experts have many disagreements about strange animals.
A photo of the “Montauk monster” appeared on popular New York gossip website Gawker earlier this week under the headline “Dead Monster Drifting into Montauk”. The story was quickly covered by many American newspapers and television channels, including Fox News and CNN
One woman, who claims to have taken the first picture of the strange beast on Montauk beach on July 12, said she didn’t know what to call it.
“We were looking for somewhere to sit when we saw a few people huddled around something,” said 26-year-old Jenna Hewitt. “We were shocked and amazed when we saw it.”
The “extraterrestrial” creature has been the focus of attention in the US media for the past 2 days
The blogger community gave different opinions, some said it was a dog, some said it was a raccoon, there was even a theory that it was a shellless sea turtle.
But the theory that it was a dog, based on its beak, seems to have the most support. The initial theory was that the image of the “Montauk monster” could be just a mischievous racing game in a promotional campaign for a new American cartoon channel.
It is not clear what happened to the “Montauk monster” corpse. Michael Meehan, a waiter at a beachside restaurant in Montauk, who also claimed to have seen the bizarre-looking beast, said animal control had been dispatched to the scene. But others said its body was taken away before they arrived.
“They said an elderly man came and took it away.” Hewitt told New York magazine.
