Ant-Man 3 star Jonathan Majors shared his admiration for Robert Downey Jr. and expressed his interest in seeing Kang meet Iron Man.
Actor Jonathan Majors, who stars as Kang the Conqueror in Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, says he’d love to see actor Robert Downey Jr. return to the role of Iron Man. In a recent interview, Majors expressed his admiration for Downey Jr and his desire for their MCU characters to meet.
Majors is set to reprise his role as Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania after he first portrayed the character in the season finale of the Disney Plus series Loki, albeit a different version of the villain. Now the soon-to-be-released Quantumania will re-introduce the character as the next big bad in the MCU. This includes the next Avengers film, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which is set to be released in theaters in 2025.
In an interview with Lifehacker Australia, Majors expressed his admiration of Downey Jr. “I’m just such a huge fan of him as an actor. I think what he did with Iron Man was such a gift to the culture at large,” he said. “I would love to be across from him on screen to see how our philosophies, acting-wise and character-wise, just personally, match up. You know, I find him to be such a fascinating artist, which is why Downey Jr.’s Iron Man is so fascinating. His portrayal of Iron Man is so fascinating and he represents a very clear worldview and energy of the Avengers. And I think Kang represents a different era. It’d be really interesting to see those two kind of come together and have a bit of conversation.”
Majors is one of the biggest rising stars in film and television. Along with portraying one of Marvel’s biggest villains, Majors is set to star opposite actor and director Michael B. Jordan in the upcoming Creed III, in which he will play the main antagonist. Majors is also known for his work on HBO’s Lovecraft Country and the recent WWII fighter pilot epic Devotion. Not much has been revealed about the next Avengers film’s plot other than Kang will be the main antagonist and that the film will be directed by Daniel Destin, who also directed Marvel Studios Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Even though the MCU’s Tony Stark/Iron Man was killed at the end of Avengers: Endgame, the introduction of the multiverse and variants of different characters has opened up the realm of possibilities, including the return of fan-favorite characters and actors. As a result, there’s no reason the MCU couldn’t re-introduce their retired characters, such as Iron Man or Captain America. Either way, Majors seems eager to share the screen with Downey Jr.’s Iron Man.
