If Loki’s first season left you on the edge of your seat with the introduction of He Who Remains towards the end, the second season is likely to leave you even more flummoxed than the first. Season 1 gave us a good look at the concept of the Multiverse, which, together with the What If…? series (2021), Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), have established the concept of an infinite number of universes in the MCU. He Who Remains is none other than a variant of Kang the Conqueror, or Kang Prime, of Earth-6311, from the year 3000.

SPOILER AHEAD: If you haven’t watched Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania yet, don’t read on
The ending of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will leave quite a few baffled, but that is not what we are here to talk about. The post-credits scenes tease viewers about someone called Victor Timely. If you know the Marvel comics well enough, you will know about this genius villain, who is touted to play a big role in the upcoming Multiverse phase of the MCU.
Timely is also supposed to feature in Loki‘s Season 2. How he faces off against Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki and Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie Lauffeydottir makes for interesting viewing, given the backdrop of the timeline split towards the end of Season 1.

Victor Timely, a Kang Prime variantSo who is Victor Timely?
Timely is a Kang variant, put simply. After being ousted from Ancient Egypt by the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Doctor Strange, and the Moon-God Khonshu, Kang Prime gets caught up in a time storm. After being rescued by Doctor Doom, he reaches the bleak 40th-century Earth-6311, where he leads an era of genocide to conquer all within a hundred light years of the planet. In another joust with the Avengers, Kang is defeated and has to look for a new power base – which leads him to 1901 Earth-6311.
Kang assumes the identity of Victor Timely – a genius equipped with technology and equipment beyond his time. He establishes the town of Timely, and subsequently, Chronopolis, within it, which stays just out of phase with the time stream, leaving him undetectable. Timely ages slowly and is skilled in armed and unarmed warfare, but is of average height, proportions, and stamina when in his human form. Kang, however, has superhuman strength and access to a wide arsenal of high-powered weapons. As a genius inventor, Timely establishes Timely Industries, where he taught robotics and basic technology associated with them to his workers in 1901.

Big picture ahead for Victor Timely
Thanos vs Kang is a fan-favorite debate
Victor Timely, while not one of Kang’s most dangerous variants, is certainly one of his brainiest. Kang the Conqueror, portrayed by Jonathan Majors on-screen, is all set to become the biggest threat to the MCU characters as he steps up to fill in Thanos’ shoes as mega-villain. Thanos perfectly put together the perfect villain, as one who worked for a good cause, albeit using barbaric means. It remains to be seen whether Majors’s Kang and his variants can, in fact, create something similar, be it in Loki Season Two or thereafter.
