After giving up the depth of Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson to add superstar talent Kevin Durant to their core of Chris Paul, Devin Booker, and Deandre Ayton, the Phoenix Suns are seen as the favorites to win the championship.
Even though KD is still out with an injury, his Suns are looking strong, with Chris Paul dropping 19 assists in Devin Booker’s return from injury. The Suns beat the higher-seeded Kings in that game tonight, With Booker scoring 32 points in just 29 minutes.
The title hopes are looking extremely real for the Suns, but Jamal Crawford reminded everyone that there is no parade in Phoenix if the core isn’t healthy throughout the playoffs.
“Health is the best defense they’re gonna see this year. If they can all stay healthy, I think they’re the favorite to win the championship. You’re adding 3 guys who know what it takes in KD, Devin Booker, and Chris Paul. This is a golden opportunity and their love for the game will take them through hard times. They’re 3 basketball-heads. When they need to adjust, those 3 hoopheads will work it out whatever comes up.”
Chris Paul getting injured in the playoffs is something we’ve seen for years and is even likelier as he returns to the stage at age 37. Kevin Durant has also struggled with his health in recent years and is currently out with an injury, but will hope to be cooking in the Finals.
Do The Suns Have Enough Depth To Win The Title?
The Suns just beat a very tough Kings team without Kevin Durant, so they can sustain periods with one of the 4 core players not in the lineup. Players like Torrey Craig, Landry Shamet, Damion Lee, and others have proven they can play big roles as rotational players to keep the Suns in the title hunt.
The team is expected to add wing Terrence Ross to the roster and have one more spot to add another player on the buyout market. That addition will further furnish a team that’ll be considered the favorite to come out of the Western Conference.
