While most people would do anything to help their siblings, 2-year-old Jonah Jones comfortably takes the best sibling award as he will undergo a transplant procedure to donate bone marrow to his younger sister Esmae.
The little girl may only be 7 months old, but she has spent most of her life in the hospital after being diagnosed with two serious conditions: ᴀᴘʟᴀsᴛɪᴄ ᴀɴᴇᴍɪᴀ and a rare form of ᴠᴀsᴄᴜʟᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ that affects the lungs and causes inflammation. Because of these, Esmae is unable to fight off bacterial infections and is more prone to developing them.
After the diagnosis, doctors told her family that she would urgently need a bone marrow transplant. Her parents and brother underwent tests to see if they were suitable as donors, but doctors warned them this was unlikely to happen.
However, defying all odds, 2-year-old Jonah was found to be compatible, and thanks to him, Esmae has a second chance at life! Once he finishes seven rounds of chemotherapy, he will undergo a transplant.
The parents of the two children are grateful for how things turned out and say their son is a true hero! Peyton said: “I am honestly so proud. Jonah is boisterous, he is so wild, but when it comes to Esmae, he is so gentle and so besotted by her. To look at him, it makes me emotional to think, ‘You’re going to save your sister’s life,’ and he has no idea.”
