These human remains were discovered in 1973 in the Teppe Hasanlu Archaeological Site in Iʀᴀɴ’s West Aᴢᴇʀʙᴀɪᴊᴀɴ Province, in the Solduz Valley.

During excavations in 1973, the skeletons of the “lovers” were discovered together in a bin made of mudbrick and plaster. They ᴅɪᴇᴅ when the site was being ᴅᴇsᴛʀᴏʏed.
They appear to be in an embrace as they stand facing one another. The arms of the two skeletons are encircling each other while the one on the left extends a hand to touch the other’s face. From the middle of the 1970s through the middle of the 1980s, the “lovers” were on display at the Penn Museum.
One Very Young Adult Male and One Slightly Older Probable Male, both Fairly Healthy and in the Prime of Life, are represented by these Skeletons.
The “lovers” are confusing in many different ways. First of all, how did they end up in the trash in the first place? Did they try to flee from their ᴀᴛᴛᴀᴄᴋers within it or were they merely placed there?
An embrace from a friend, lover, relative, or even a stranger may have been a natural outcome of extreme duress as these two people and the other residents of Hasanlu faced their darkest hour together.

Hasanlu is an archaeological excavation site in the Solduz Valley of Iʀᴀɴ and Western Aᴢᴇʀʙᴀɪᴊᴀɴ. These skeletons were discovered in an empty bin. The only distinguishing feature is a stone slab under the skull’s left-side head (Sk335).
