On February 7, a catchy hashtag, “Captain Korea Jin,” was trending on Twitter. The keyword was also among the trending topics in the US, Indonesia, the Philippines, and in other countries.
Under the hashtag, fans were sharing their favorite pictures of Jin’s broad shoulders and other photos that have that “Captain Korea” vibe to them. They’ve also trended “Proud of you Jin,” along with the other hashtag. Many people brought up the memories of Jin representing South Korea at the UN or speaking at the White House. His quotes from those events have been going viral many times.
“Captain Korea Jin” became a popular topic due to multiple K-media outlets calling Jin so in their articles. However, it’s not new in the list of Jin’s nicknames because people have been calling him that ever since 2016 (including the BTS members themselves). It was popular as a reference to Jin’s “worldwide” shoulders and athleticism. Jin’s triangle-shaped shoulders-to-waist ratio was always compared to Marvel’s Captain America.
