Former Liverpool defender Daniel Agger is instantly recognisable thanks to his tattoos and even teased a return to playing last year, five years on from retiring
Daniel Agger has been dubbed “the world’s most tattooed footballer”
The “world’s most tattooed ex-footballer” is also a tattoo artist who has teased returning five years on from retiring.
Former Denmark and Liverpool defender Daniel Agger became instantly recognisable during his eight years in England thanks to his striking tattoos and ink. They included a graveyard piece which covered his entire back, various Viking tattoos and “YNWA” inked across the knuckles on his right hand to silence rumours of an exit.
As well as making 232 appearances for the Reds between 2006 and 2014, Agger also became and worked as a qualified tattoo artist during his time at Anfield, according to The Metro.
Having returned to Denmark in 2014, Agger retired at the age of just 31 in 2016 following two years with Brondby. He later ventured into management, securing his first job last year when he was appointed HB Koge boss.
Just a month later, though, he was hinting he could come out of retirement at 36-years-old in order to help the club deal with an injury crisis.
Koge director confirmed Agger’s registration via Sport TV2, explaining: “We’re hit hard by injuries at the moment, which is why Daniel came and said that if it was really, really hard, he could help at the end of a game. For that reason, we have brought his player’s certificate home and registered him.”
Daniel Agger teased a return to playing last summer
Despite making himself available to help his team, Agger was not required to put his boots back on and Koge made it out the other side of their injury crisis.
The club went on to finish seventh in the Danish second tier before they topped the relegation group following the league’s split, with Agger remaining in charge on a contract which runs until the summer of 2024.
Five matches into the new season, Agger and Koge are currently sixth in the table, having gained a second consecutive win on Tuesday night when they beat Nykobing 4-0 at home.
