Jewelry Bonney’s powers could hold a connection to one of the strongest pirates in One Piece, Big Mom.
Jewelry Bonney is one of the most important characters in One Piece’s ongoing Egghead Island arc. She is a member of the Worst Generation who was introduced to the fans before the 2-year timeskip of the story on the island of Sabaody Archipelago. Along with the other Supernovas, she was a pirate who had arrived on the island with a bounty of 100 million berries or higher. Hailing from the South Blue, Bonney made a name for herself as the Big Eater.
Since then, she has only gone on to become more powerful and currently, she is a successful pirate in the New World. More importantly, Bonney is exceptionally intriguing and both her past and her current life are full of mystery that fans know very little about. Her connection to Kuma, for example, is very curious. At the same time, another connection that Bonney might potentially have is to Big Mom, one of the Yonko of the Sea, who recently fell from her throne in the Wano Country arc, with Kaido. While no direct comparison has been made between the two, there are several hints that prove that could actually be a clone of Big Mom.
Bonney’s Past
To begin with, fans know very little about Bonney’s past. Until recently, all that fans knew about her was that she hailed from the South Blue from the Sorbet Kingdom and was either the dowager Queen and, as such, the wife of Bartholomew Kuma, or posing to be the dowager queen and was actually a blood relative of Kuma. In the Egghead Island arc, it was finally revealed that Bonney was Kuma’s very own daughter, however, this connection is rather curious. While Bonney certainly remembers spending her childhood with Kuma, all that fans know is that she had visited Vegapunk with him at a certain point. In fact, even her flashback memories that have been illustrated in small panels reveal her to be with Kuma in a lab, as evident from the fact that he was wearing a lab coat, which he only wore while being a patient of Dr. Vegapunk.
Bonney is also heavily indebted to Kuma himself and why this is the case isn’t known. After all, the two have been separated for years now and despite that, she is often seen acting as if she owes him a big favor. This favor could very well be the favor of life. Furthermore, there are no physical similarities between Bonney and Kuma and while that doesn’t necessarily mean that the two have nothing to do with each other genetically, it is also rather strange to a certain degree. At the same time, Kuma is also known to be from a unique race in the One Piece world and Bonney seems to show no signs of being anything other than a regular human at the moment.
Bonney And Big Mom
One character that Bonney has shown a lot in common with is Big Mom, down from her very physical appearance to her actual personality. For one, both Bonney and Big Mom have pink hair and while that is very common in the One Piece world, they also wear their makeup in similar ways. Furthermore, both Big Mom and Bonney express emotions in similar ways. Bonney is prone to wearing her heart on the sleeve and fans have seen that across Egghead Island. Big Mom, when younger, and even older to a certain extent, expresses her emotions very similarly.
What’s more, Bonney and Big Mom are both voracious eaters. Big Mom’s appetite is something that fans need no introduction to as they’ve already seen what she’s capable of throughout the post-timeskip of the story. Bonney is very similar to her and gets food cravings randomly. She has an incredible appetite and, as far as fans know, this has nothing to do with her Devil Fruit ability, which strictly concerns age manipulation.
The Devil Fruit powers of the two also are rather similar. While Big Mom can remove the lifespan of people from their bodies, Bonney can remove the age of people from their bodies. To add an even more connection to the two, the flag ship of the Big Mom pirates, the Queen Mama Chanter, and Bonney’s very own ship are very similar. In fact, Bonney stole one of her ships from Big Mom, potentially during the timeskip.
The fact that cloning is very much possible in the One Piece world means that Bonney could indeed be a creation from the lineage factor of the Yonko Big Mom. This also adds to the hypothesis that Kuma doesn’t want Bonney to look into his memories simply because he doesn’t want her to know her past and the fact that she isn’t a natural-born human. It is possible that Bonney was made artificially and was later raised by Kuma himself as his very own daughter. That said, given that the world of One Piece is incredibly massive, it is entirely possible that Bonney just bears a stark resemblance to Big Mom for no particular reason whatsoever. Either way, Oda will eventually deliver the answer to the fans and it will certainly be something worth it.
