Liverpool had a difficult season in 2022/23, but it remains a prominent destination club. One World Cup player recently stated that Liverpool is his “dream” team.
Liverpool has been labeled as a ‘dream club’ by one of the best players at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
It’s been a difficult season for the Reds, but the club is still viewed as a major destination team by many of the finest players around.
One such player is Croatian center-back Joško Gvardiol. The RB Leipzig defender emerged as one of the best players in Qatar, with the small nation making it to yet another World Cup semi-final.
They eventually lost to winners Argentina, with Gvardiol being bamboozled by Lionel Messi late in the game, but Gvardiol had covered himself in glory throughout the tournament.
Gvardiol has recently declared a love for Liverpool, revealing they are his ‘dream’ club.
“My dream club? That would definitely be Liverpool,” he told Croatian TV channel RTLDanas. “Since I was little, I watched a lot of their matches with my dad.
“We covered every season in detail. It is a club that has remained in my heart.”
Yet despite his love for Liverpool, the defender is in no rush to leave East Germany.
“I’m not in a hurry,” he explained during the January transfer window. “I’m at Leipzig and we still have six months to finish the season and to win something. And then we will look further to the future.”
Despite a vulnerable defense this season, center-back is not a priority for Liverpool going into the summer 2023 transfer window. So it remains to be seen whether Gvardiol will get his ‘dream’ move in the foreseeable future.
But with Goal reporting that Joël Matip could depart in the summer for the right offer, Gvardiol could be the ideal successor.
