Mason Greenwood has been included in Manchester United’s latest Premier League squad list after the charges against the 21-year-old were dropped.

Greater Manchester Police announced today (Thursday, February 2) that criminal proceedings against the footballer have been discontinued. The forward had been charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour and assault, allegations relating to the same woman.

In a statement, United confirmed that the club would conduct an internal investigation to ‘determine next steps’, while Greenwood also released a statement later in the day.

The player has since been included in the club’s updated Premier League squad list for the rest of the 2022/23 season. Premier League sides are required to submit their updated squad list following the closure of the January transfer window.

Greenwood’s last game for United came against West Ham on January 22 last year. About a week later, on January 30, the footballer was arrested and he has been suspended by the club ever since.

The striker has scored 35 goals in 129 appearances for the club, as well as registering 12 assists, since making his first-team debut in 2019.

United will now carry out their own process and Greenwood will remain suspended from training and matches until it is finished, the club confirmed on Thursday.

A United spokesman said: “Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped.

“The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.”

Greenwood also released a short statement, which read: “I am relieved that this matter is now over and I would like to thank my family, loved ones and friends for their support.

“There will be no further comment at this time.”
