Roy Keane cheekily asks Erik ten Hag for free tickets to Carabao Cup final clash

Roy Keane has tried to work his old captain’s luck with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag after the club progressed to their first cup final under the Dutchman in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final victory.

Ten Hag’s Red Devils breezed past Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Wednesday, beating their Premier League opposition 2-0 on the night and 5-0 on aggregate to set up a trip to Wembley.

Former Manchester United Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League winning captain Keane, now a pundit on Sky Sports, attempted to sway his way into some free tickets for the upcoming Carabao Cup final during Ten Hag’s post-match interview.

The United boss was interviewed pitchside after the whistle, with Keane taking the opportunity to check whether his influence was still recognised at the club under the new manager’s reign, asking: ‘Do you have any spare tickets for the final? Just two, two complimentary tickets?’

Fortunately, the good-spirited Reds boss was happy to oblige as he replied amongst a panel of laughter: ‘I can. I think so Roy. No problem.

Host interviewer Mark Chapman comically mocked Keane’s behaviour as Ten Hag then exited back down the Old Trafford tunnel.

Keane – at times one of the club’s harshest critics – evidently still maintains a reputation even at a club under new management.

The Irishman has at times split opinions amongst the club’s fanbase with his criticism of players occasionally deemed to be over-the-top.

However, Ten Hag was rightfully open to such comedic discussions in what are usually serious interviews following his side’s success in the Carabao Cup competition so far that could see them end their six year trophy drought at the first time of asking for the Dutchman.

Second-half goals from a returning Anthony Martial and Brazilian midfielder Fred wrapped up what was a comfortable two-legged last-four tie for the eventual finalists.

Further joy inside the Theatre of Dreams on Wednesday evening saw Jadon Sancho mark his return to the first-team following his lengthy period of absence.

The United winger was given a standing ovation inside the stadium as Ten Hag opted to bring Sancho back for his first appearance since October.
