Manchester United are confident that Alejandro Garnacho will commit his long-term future to the club by extending his Old Trafford contract ‘very soon’, respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has told GiveMeSport.
While boss Erik ten Hag has succeeded in strengthening his options with the loan additions of Jack Butland and Wout Weghorst during the January transfer window, he has also set his sights on tying one of the Red Devils’ up-and-coming talents down to a new deal.
Man United contract news – Alejandro Garnacho
According to FootballTransfers, Garnacho is on the verge of putting pen-to-paper after agreeing terms on a fresh contract worth upwards of £30,000-per-week.
The report suggests Manchester United’s proposal, which is a six-and-a-half year deal and includes a 12-month extension option, would see the teenager receive significant bonuses for goals and other performance-related targets.
It comes after transfer guru Romano previously told GiveMeSport that the Red Devils are optimistic over Garnacho signing on the dotted line.
There has been uncertainty over where the Manchester United academy product’s long-term future lies as his current contract, which is worth £5,000-per-week, is due to expire in the summer of 2024.
La Liga giants Real Madrid and Serie A outfit Juventus have shown an interest while negotiations over a new deal have been ongoing, but the Red Devils have been insistent that Garnacho is not for sale.
What has Fabrizio Romano said about Garnacho?
Romano understands that Manchester United are relaxed over Garnacho’s future after holding positive discussions over a new contract.
The journalist is aware the Red Devils are confident the Madrid-born youngster will put pen-to-paper imminently.
Romano told GiveMeSport: “Now, the conversations are very positive, so Manchester United are relaxed on the Garnacho situation.
“They feel they will have the chance to extend his contract very, very soon.”
Will a Garnacho contract extension be a huge boost for Man United?
Garnacho has already shown that he has a bright future ahead of him by racking up seven goal contributions in his first 18 senior appearances for Manchester United, according to Transfermarkt.
The 18-year-old also played a pivotal role in the comeback win over arch-rivals Manchester City last weekend, with Sofascore statistics showing he grabbed an assist on his way to a 7.0 match rating.
It is clear that ten Hag is keen to keep Garnacho on Manchester United’s books as he has claimed the Argentina under-20 international has ‘individual skills that can make the difference’ while also being able to ‘contribute on the highest level’.
Additionally, he has been described as ‘dangerous’ by Red Devils legend Paul Scholes, emphasising that tying him down to a new contract would be a major boost as ten Hag builds for the future.
